via Minneapolis seeks ‘signature’ artwork for Nicollet Mall – StarTribune.com.
An article concerning the desire for a signature work of art for a mall in Minneapolis. Good luck is in order, because I’m not sure if one can predict such things. What may seem awe inspiring and crowd drawing to a selection commission, may eventually turn out to be a flop. Public art has always had this controversy. Remember the brouhaha about the Eiffel Tower and the Vietnam War Memorial by Maya Lin? However, worse than controversy is a big yawn by the public. Indifference always bites harder than revulsion.
